Outlook 2016 Total Attachment Size Exceeds

There is a 20 MB limit on the maximum attachment size in Outlook mail client (including the latest 2010 / 2013 versions). It doesn’t matter if a single large file or several small ones are attached — the total attachment size would not exceed 20 MB.

  1. Jun 18, 2019 If you've ever sent an email attachment through Outlook 2016 that exceeds the allowable attachment size and you're on a Mac, you will end up with the dreaded 'The total attachment size exceeds the limit. Try removing one or more attachments before saving or sending' error notification. It will not go away until you hunt down the offending email.
  2. Error: Outlook cannot send the message because the message size exceeds the maximum limit set on the server. Details: The message has been moved to the Drafts folder under On My Computer. Try reducing the message size by removing or resizing any large attachments, and then resend.

When trying to send a letter of more than 20 MB using Outlook, the following error message appears:

Look through emails identified as 25 MB or larger, saving any attachments desired. If you wish to save the email, there are a few options: Right-click the attachment in the body of the email and select Remove Attachment until the email is below 25 MB in size. Print the email to paper or to a file, such as to a pdf by printing to a pdf printer. Outlook Error 17193 The total attachment size exceeds the limit. If your mail server or the recipient mail server do not support letters of a larger size, when trying to send a large email message, you will get an NDR (Non delivery report) with the information that the maximum attachment size has been exceeded. Here are sample messages you can get:

  • Attachment size exceeds the allowable limit
  • 552: Message size exceeds maximum permitted
  • System Undeliverable, message size exceeds outgoing message size limit
